Redemption

Oil Paint

Redemption aims to portray the essence of altruism, criticising the morality of everyday human activities. A portion of the face remains beneath the veil, representing one’s adversity concealed when facing the public. Similarly, the repetition of the orange signifies a sense of comfort, which is reflected in the kindness of human nature. The use of grey and purple deliberately juxtaposes the rest of the painting, symbolising the cruelty of human actions - typically hidden under the surface.

Deicide in Flames

Oil Paint

Inspired by the Roman poet Ovid, Deicide in Flames portrays the moment a god is slain by a mortal. The God’s body, once a symbol of divine power, now lies defeated, stripped of its immortality. The surrounding flames signify the aftermath of a fierce battle, consuming the remains of what was once thought to be untouchable. Behind the fire, the deep blackness represents death and the abyss, reinforcing the connection between a fallen God and the descent into oblivion.

You Fool!

Digital Procreate Drawing

You Fool! expresses the expectations and reality upon facing godly entities - tenacious forces. The paintings contrast human hopes with divine reality. The size disparity in the first painting highlights mortal insignificance. The second work's reaching gesture shows futility against cosmic powers. Here, light symbolises divinity; the knight's darkness represents powerlessness. This contrast emphasises the mortal-divine gap, shattering human illusions when facing celestial might.

My Cherished

3D Sculpture, Plaster, Mixed Media

My Cherished explores humanity's obsession with preserving beauty and wealth. The rough exterior symbolises rigid defences built to protect treasures, reflecting sacrifices made for greed. Inside, glowing treasure-like features represent the delicate nature of coveted items. It is shaped like a chess horse to evoke the Trojan Horse myth, though subverting the conventions. This contrast strengthens the theme of obsession, the lengths humans go to safeguard what they value, often at great cost.

Maemi - Sept 4th, 2004

Digital Procreate Drawing

This artwork anthropomorphised the hurricane Maemi as two wind Dokkaebis (도깨비) from Korean mythology embodies humanity's tendency to turn natural forces into divine figures. The rough and seamless strokes symbolise humanity’s need to interpret and cope with nature’s destructive power through myth. Low-opacity strokes illustrate how Maemi's absurd strength controls and plays with the population, signifying the duality of nature's power - both fearsome and awe-inspiring.

The Helm of Morality

Blender Drawing, Photoshop

The Helm of Mortality portrays Death’s supremacy among apocalyptic harbingers from the Bible, through four helmets, each symbolising the Horsemen. Death’s helm stands upright, radiating an otherworldly glow, while the others lie fallen, emphasising its ultimate dominance. The luminous aura suggests Death’s transcendence, illuminating the inescapable nature of mortality. This composition reinforces Death as the great equaliser, outlasting all forces in the cosmic order.

Danse Macabre

Video, Premier Pro

Danse Macabre explores the tension between human fragility and subconscious forces. A man walking toward the light symbolises enlightenment, while his grotesque shadows allude to Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’ and Jungian’s ‘Shadow Self’. These distorted forms represent hidden aspects of the psyche, their movements expressing inner turmoil. In the final spotlight, the contrast between the small figure and his overpowering shadows reflects the struggle between perception and unseen influences.

Path of the Unbound

Oil Paint

Path of the Unbound depicts a soldier in a golden helmet wielding a sword, symbolising rebellion against social norms, and the boundaries of life and death. Inspired by the Biblical ‘Narrow Gate’, the transition of the background colour tones signifies the soldier heading into the darkness, rejecting a predetermined path in human lives. The horse represents strength and freedom, mirroring the pursuit of individuality, urging viewers to question conformity and seek their own truths.

Threads of Destiny

Oil Paint, Organza

Threads of Destiny aims to showcase the fragmented nature of humans’ fates. The composition of three canvases evokes the presence of the three Fates of Greek mythology - Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos - who spin, measure, and cut the thread of life. The cloth serves as a symbolic thread, reinforcing themes of mortality and the inescapability of fate. The monotone background signifies the absence of time and space, hinting that the figure is abandoned in limbo.

Duality

Photography, Digital Photoshop

Duality aims to explore the interplay between Gods’ strengths and weaknesses, symbolised by the horse and the man, respectively. Layered imagery merges human and equine forms, forging a profound connection between them, and signifying the inseparable nature of God’s characteristics. Through contrasting expressions and overlapping elements, the artwork explores God’s identity and the internal struggle between power and vulnerability, reflected through living beings on Earth.

Veiled Identities

Sculpture, Plaster, Mixed Media

Veiled Identities presents two masks on canvas, their eyes obscured by dense layers of blue and purple cloth. Encased further by shards of shattered glass and scattered metal spheres, the composition evokes a sense of entrapment. Through these elements, the piece explores the theme of Spiritual blindness and Protection - questioning whether concealment serves as a shield or a prison.
