Primitive Response
Oil on canvas
“Primitive Response” explores a sharp moment of human emotional tension. The exaggerated facial features signify an overwhelming feeling of inner turmoil and anxiety. The use of a close-up composition exposes the viewers to a direct confrontation of the raw, unfiltered emotion of the subject, portraying the fragile nature of the human mind. The repetition of the face symbolises human inner conflict when faced with forces beyond its control, and the overwhelming pressures of an ever-changing world.

Metamorphosis
Oil on paper
Metamorphosis illustrates the human struggle for growth and self-discovery. The central figure, cocooned within a blanket, represents the comfort of familiarity and serves as a metaphor for safety and security. The surrounding mushrooms depict the diverse experiences and memories gathered during youth which shape our personalities. The piece’s core lies in the attempt to break free from the cocoon, symbolising the challenge of leaving comfort zones and confronting the unknown.

Scream
Clay, Fabric
Following the theme of Human Adaptation, Scream displays an adult face wrapped in a baby blanket, symbolising humanity’s reaction to drastic environmental change. The infant-like scream reflects primal fear, while the blanket signifies a retreat to childhood safety. It captures the chaos of adapting to an unrecognisable world, where survival becomes less about strength and more about coping with uncertainty, illustrating how even the strong can feel fragile when forced back to basic instincts.

The New Recipe
Oil on canvas
The New Recipe presents a post-apocalyptic world whereby the distinction between Flora and Fauna in nature is incredibly blurred. The mushroom extrudes a black substance, which symbolises the distortion of the natural elements, the ugly side of life. The destroyed industrial background portrays the destruction of human life whilst the butcher figure signifies human adaptation, where familiar life forms have decomposed, leaving strange, unidentifiable plants as the only source of survival.

Lonely Survivor
Ink and pen on paper
The assortment of survival items represents humanity's instinct to adapt and persist, clinging to remnants of the past while striving to endure in a hostile, transformed world. The canary, sustained by an oxygen mask, symbolises a fragile yet persistent hope, underscoring the interdependence between humans and nature for mutual survival. The lack of colour juxtaposed with the leaf and the bird, reflects the difficulties which humans and nature have to face to coexist in a new world.

The New Ruler
Mixed media-sculpey, foam board
The mutated plants and mushrooms symbolise nature's triumph and adaptability, thriving in the absence of human dominance and reclaiming the world as its own. The central tree represents the new ruler of the environment, standing as a testament to nature’s resilience and its ability to outlast humanity’s attempts to control it. The firecamp symbolises humanity’s effort to adapt and coexist in this transformed world, serving as a reminder of human resilience and the ability to find warmth.

To The Unknown
Oil on canvas
The mutated plants represent the duality of nature’s power—both as a source of beauty and life and as a formidable force that threatens humanity. The explorers are helping one another, symbolising the strength of community and the necessity of unity, signifying the importance of collective effort for survival in an unpredictable and hostile world. Their exploration and persistence amidst threats highlight humanity’s resilience and determination to adapt, even when faced with challenges.

Bystander
Oil on canvas
The mutated goat symbolises unnatural transformation, exaggerating ever-changing nature and how it influences all beings. The other goat watches the scene from a distance as a silent witness, emphasising the tension that animals experience from the changes in the environment. The three figures performing surgery on the goat represent scientific intervention, whilst the dissected animal body parts reflect the fragility of human nature in their struggle to survive in an uncontrollable world.
Survival Essentials
Watercolour on paper
The bag symbolises humanity’s struggle for survival in an apocalyptic world, highlighting the relentless need to adapt and persevere. The calendar and the clock emphasise that, even in a world where survival becomes paramount, the human need for structure, routine, and planning remains vital. The bag unfolds itself into a map, representing a voyage of self-discovery. It metaphorically specifies the different environments we go through in life and the challenges that come with these terrains.

Seeds of The Last Legacy
Oil on canvas
The sprawling roots enveloping the crumbling structure symbolise the unstoppable power of nature reclaiming spaces once dominated by human intervention. The botanist’s documentation represents humanity's enduring curiosity and responsibility to preserve knowledge, even in the face of ecological collapse. The mutated flora growing in the barren surroundings signifies resilience and adaptation, highlighting both nature's ability to survive and the unintended consequences of human actions.
